In my composition and rhetoric, is was one of my favorite classes in my first year on my program. This course was about the study of arguments and developing our writing skills for writing essays. What I liked about this course was that I like writing for different topics. I also learned how to create academic essays and write with different models. Such as Classical and Toulmin models which a has different ways of showing your side of an argument.

 

What I have learned:

1. Write about my own thoughts for an argument in an essay and provide solid evidence to back up my argument.   

​

2. Is to write an essay by using either of the two the Classical model or the Toulmin model.

​

3. Write an essay to argument assignment for or against a marketing ad.

 

The one thing that really surprise me about this course was how well I did in it. Like for example when we had to do our first rhetoric assignment we had to write a 300 to 500-word essay in two hours. Which I was worried about because I thought it wouldn’t be enough time for me to do it. Mostly because I thought I wouldn’t be able to focus on the task at hand and I my style of write wouldn’t be good enough for this course. But when I was writing the essay I was able to focus on it and even write it very well that it even surprised me.

 

During my time of the course I was able to see how I improved in my writing and how easily it was for me to adapt in writing the different model of arguments. I was even able to improve my own writing style to a university standard. Which was a better from when I did essay for my diploma program. Overall, I was able to use experience in this class to better my writing for all my class and I can’t wait to see how I will develop my writing skills better in the future.

 

Artifact: Research Essay

While I was writing my research essay I needed to do research on my topic through the Sheridan database. But because my topic which was influences of marvel comics in the modern day it was difficult to find many resources related to my topic. I had to research on google to get more sources to use. One of my sources I found was an article and video that was written this year about how in China there are a group of young adults who was making working replicas of many marvel weapons. That was able to use to help me with my research essay to help with my side of the argument.
