Curiosity and Imagination
During the first internship I had with Lymphoma Canada I had to do a few phone calls with other donors. It was the first time I ever had a professional phone call for an actual organization, and I was still a little nervous to talk with strangers on the phone. Especially when I was representing an organization and not for personal reasons. The phone call was mostly to gain new information from Lymphoma's current donors. To add in their profile data in Lymphoma’s database. Also, to explain new information that was happening to the organization like new educational materials and upcoming fundraisers. What I did to improve myself was that I made notes of the important points I need to communicate to the donor and created a script for myself. If I felt too nervous before the call, I would quietly speak out loud what I wanted to say to gain some confidence for myself. Today I am more confidant and comfortable with talking to others on the phone. To the point where I don’t need a script for myself and I can improvise quick answers easily. There are times I would create a few notes so I wouldn’t forget if I need to communicate specific information to another person. But that is so I am organized and don’t take up too much of the other person's time. To prove my new skills, I have a video I created for my creative portfolio it is called my development story. Where I had voiced over my video to explain my story. During this project, I used the same skills I had learned from doing my internship and was more confidant while creating my video.
